In the modern world, the computer has become one of the main information sources. Young people can easily find useful educational materials or contact the professional writer service. In addition, the Internet has allowed to create many social networks, dating sites, chats, where people from different corners of the planet can make friends.
For example, you are in one country, and your new beloved person may be in another. Or you stayed at the same place of residence but can’t keep in touch with an old friend who moved to another city. The Internet has given excellent opportunities to communicate with different people without leaving home. This is a plus. The downside may be the imaginary solidarity of interests, views and goals for life, especially when it comes to search for the loved one.
The disadvantages of virtual communication
The more a person spends time on the Internet, the more his language and interaction with others change. He loses the skills of real communication, getting used to those forms that are accepted on the Internet. Everyone knows such forms as smileys, word cuts and other slang. They are useless and incomprehensible in real contact with people.
Another important disadvantage of virtual communication is the change in human consciousness. Being most of the time at unloved work, a person is fond of virtual communication. He follows the life of other people, puts his own life on display, communicates with unknown persons, and admires the information that is given to him. In many respects, all this can be far from the realities that exist in the real world.
Getting used to virtual communication, Web users stop spending free time in the real world. Even being next to each other, they can correspond through their gadgets. Family people can spend the leisure time in social networks. They no longer communicate with each other but are fond of what is in the virtual world.
There is no true love on the Web
Often people want to find their love through online dating on special sites. There can be a lot of traps here:
- You may get acquainted not with the person depicted on the photo.
- The photo may be old.
- The information that a person provides about himself cannot be checked, accordingly, it can turn out to be false.
In virtual communication, there is no real contact of people, where they observe facial expressions, gestures and other manifestations of interlocutors, by which it is possible to determine whether they like each other and have common interests, etc. Web users may not only talk about their own personality in the exaggerated form (that is, to embellish themselves), but also create in their heads images that do not correspond to who the interlocutors are.
On the Web, people communicate not with each other but with the images that they painted and supplemented with their own desires and imagination. If such communication passes to a real acquaintance, the interlocutors are often disappointed and stop the relationship on the first day, because everything that seemed real to them was an illusion.
The weak guy can tell stories that demonstrate his strength. An ugly girl can talk about the fact that she is surrounded by many fans. In fact, everything may be quite differently. In a virtual communication, a Web user can deceive his interlocutors.
Wearing a mask
Often, people evade the real communication, because there is rarely a chance to be mistaken, to be yourself, to show your negative qualities and be imperfect. Real communication is a field where there are many grievances, disappointments, difficulties, etc.
Virtual world allows a person to be anyone. He may even be a scoundrel – this image will also be loved by someone. A Web user can experiment, make mistakes, play different roles – and all this will be accepted, will go unpunished. The downside of virtual communication is that a person forms an image that absolutely does not coincide with his capabilities and properties.
On the Internet, people are not judged according to the qualities that are assessed in real life. Here, the main ones are a sense of humor, literacy, education horizons. In reality, the decisive factors are the appearance, actions and ability to express thoughts correctly. If partners from the virtual world become real, the qualities they valued in remote communication can depreciate in a moment when they see each other.
The longer a person communicates virtually, the more he gets used to his own lies and irresponsibility, since no one can disclose them, see his deception, bring it to the surface. And such a “hero” becomes absolutely uninteresting for those people with whom he can communicate in real life.
Such situation is particularly dangerous for a child who only learns to communicate with the world around and to understand his own place. Everything is allowed in the virtual space. But there are limitations in the real life. If the child does not understand himself, does not develop the qualities necessary for live communication, does not seek his “place under the sun”, he loses the connection with his real personality and stays in the Internet space.
It’s worth remembering about such a concept as Internet addiction, which is widely observed in modern society. Its signs are:
- Obsession in reading messages, even if no one should write.
- Communication with friends only through social networks.
- Importance of the number of visitors to the page and the comments that other people left.
- Desire to discuss other people’s photos and to exhibit personal new photos.
- Long sessions in front of the monitor.
- Feeling of panic or frustration because of the inability to get on the page.
But nevertheless, it is not right to say that virtual communication only harms. In fact, any medicine can do harm if used in the wrong quantities, just as poison can cure if used in the right doses. The result of virtual communication completely depends on the purpose for which the person uses it.
Some people use the Internet only in the cases of real need, for example, to communicate with the relatives who are in another city or country, to maintain business relations with partners. However, if a person prefers to live in virtual mode rather than in real one, this indicates his dependence and detachment from a real life.
